Startup Experience – Register Now!


Do you want to learn about how to create new business? Do you want to join or set up a startup? This and much more you will learn in the Startup Experience course.

In the Startup Experience course you learn skills that help you create new business or even eventually set up a startup. After having completed the Startup Experience, you will be better prepared to navigate the fast paced and unpredictable commercial environment. You will be able to turn customer understanding and business and technology opportunities into new products and services. While the focus of the course is on setting up a new business as a start-up, most of the skills you will learn are equally valuable in the context of existing companies.

The course will suit persons who is adaptive, collaborative and creatively driven. Persons, who are interested in going beyond conventional thinking practices to create effective teams and commercial value. Find the whole course description here.

Special focus on Fintech

The Fall 2018 edition of the course offers a special opportunity for those who are interested in developing new services for the Financial sector. These services are often referred to as Fintech services.

If you are interested in developing new Fintech business concepts, you can take the course TU-EV – Fintech Seminar together with the Startup Experience.

NOTE: You are most welcome to join the Startup Experience even though you want to develop some other concepts, working on a Fintech concept is in no way mandatory.


Follow these steps to register:

The course is open to all Aalto students. To register for the course, you should take these two steps:

  1. Register in Oodi
  2. Upload a personal CV on the Participant CV‘s page (only available when you are logged in to MyCourses)

If you want to act as the CEO for one of the course teams, you should also upload a separate application for the CEO role to the CEO applications section.

The deadline for the registration is September 9, 2018. The course starts with 3 kick-off sessions (Tuesday 11th of Sept at 09:00-12:00, Wednesday 12th of Sept at 09:00 – 12:00, and Thursday 13th of Sept at 14:00 – 16:00). You must participate in all 3 kick-off sessions in order to be accepted to the course. Final acceptance happens only after the Team formation day on September 18.


More information about combined courses and available credits:

You can combine Startup Experience with the course TU-EV – Fintech Seminar  (1 or 3 ECTS) or with the course TU-E4130 – Refresher on Business Research (1 ECTS).

NOTE! The course ”TU-E4130 – Refresher on Business Research” can only be taken together with Startup Experience, and it is intended for students with no previous experience in user driven design or user research. It introduces key design concepts and tools that help students performe better in the Startup Experience course.

If you need/want 10 ECTS you can take either:

  1. Startup Experience (9 ECTS) and TU-EV – Fintech Seminar (1 ECTS version)
  2. Startup Experience (9 ECTS) and U-E4130 – Refresher on Business Research (1 ECTS)

If you need/want 12 ECTS, you can take:

  1. Startup Experience (9 ECTS) and TU-EV – Fintech Seminar (3 ECTS version)


NOTE! You can always take all the courses individually, and don’t have to combine them. For example, you can take the basic Startup Experience course (9 ECTS) or Fintech Seminar (3 ECTS version) individually, without any other extra courses.
