From Lab to Market

Available funding outside the lab

Event info

Starting and growing a successful startup requires more than just a great team or innovative idea; it involves understanding market validation and what investors truly seek. Securing funding is a key step, often necessary while striving for profitability. With the fierce competition for investors’ attention and resources, making your startup stand out is essential. What better way to gain insight than by learning directly from those who have done it?

In this session, we are excited to welcome Niko Eiden, co-founder of Varjo and Pixieray, to share his valuable insights on navigating the commercialization journey from lab to market. With a wealth of experience in building innovative companies, Niko will discuss alternative routes to Research-to-Business (R2B) funding that can empower researchers and entrepreneurs to successfully transition their groundbreaking ideas into viable market solutions.

You will learn about the various funding options available. Niko will also delve into the importance of crafting a compelling narrative around your research and how to effectively communicate its market potential.

From Lab to Market is an event series that brings together top entrepreneurs, industry experts, and successful academic innovators to show you how your research can move beyond the lab and change lives. We’re not here to promise instant global success or a smooth journey but to highlight the incredible support available within the Finnish Startup Ecosystem and right here at Aalto University.

Meet our speakers:

Niko Eiden

co-founder of Varjo Pixieray

Niko Eiden is the co-founder of Varjo and later Pixieray. Both high-tech R&D startups are not initially from university research but could thus provide some insight into the alternative routes to R2B funding.
